A River's water of thoughts

An anti-piracy group that widely uses illegal methods and works for big companies is trying another one of their dirty tactics.

Monkey Defenders MediaDefender is sending spam e-mails to people that it thinks might be involved in sharing files online in torrents. I say might, because it looks like they are just sending it out to whomever on the internets.

First they accuse you of this activity, threaten to sue/turn you in and as proof of your 'illegal' activities they have a file attached that you download that is supposed to be a log of your 'illegal' torrent behavior. It's a virus.

Targets of the scam receive an unsolicited email purporting to come from notorious anti-piracy company MediaDefender. The email, which is simply addressed “Dear User!” claims the individual has been monitored on any of several torrent sites while engaging in anything from copyright infringement, through to simply browsing the sites.

Threat characteristics of ZBot - a banking trojan that disables firewall, steals sensitive financial data (credit card numbers, online banking login details), makes screen snapshots, downloads additional components, and provides a hacker with the remote access to the compromised system. Creates a startup registry entry. Contains characteristics of an identified security risk.

Savvy Internet users will hopefully realize the email is a scam fairly quickly, but hardened file-sharers should smell a rat even earlier due to the omission of demands for money.

Like most savvy net users you can tell it's a scam. But there are those who might be tempted to see what it really says or are worried about prosecution. Never fear. The 'real' ones use extortion methods.

Shoukoeh Azadi Ba Mast

July 4th is tomorrow, the anniversary of the day our country was forged. As we celebrate let us remember all those around the world who dream of a world in which they have freedom, glory be that name. There is plan for those of us who support them to release green balloons into the sky among other ideas.

I'm planning on attaching to them to signs that say either "Free Iran" "Where Is My Vote" "Sea of Green - it's what the movement is calling the momentum of public support - with some streamers.

Sarah Palin quit as governor.

Mom thinks she is going to be the next Chairman of the GOP. I think it has to do with her memoir book coming out and the profits of it.

But watching this clip on HuffPo I gotta wonder if she is running with a full set. The video is six and a half minutes long and most of it is rambling and bambling about doing what is right for Alaska and blah blah blah.

It didn't make a lick of sense.

I'm still shaking my head in what-the-fuckness of this resignation video.

Is more dirty laundry about to come out and she is heading it off by quiting?
