isn't it fun to be me? plus the new mystery novel that is sweeping Japan

Towards the end of watching the epic film Australia my dad said he saw a possum in the condemed room behind us (the one with the glass french doors). Insue frantic search for animal - without actually going into the room - after pounding on the wall, knocking on the glass and looking into the room to see if the animal is still in there, we get back to watching the last minutes of the film.

Afterwards, parents went to back of house to see how badly the roof is...cut )

*shrugs*

In other news, Haruki Murakami has a new book coming out and the only thing that people know about it is the title IQ84 (which in Japanese is pronounced ichi kyu hachi yon which equals 1984, kyu is the pronounciation of 9 and Q) so people think it might be related to that. The mystery surrounding this book is because five years when he had his last book, Kafka on the Shore, out the press releases diminished the impact of the story (basically they gave away too much of the plot and the fans bitched about it - since he's a pomo type of author and what the title alludes to...they may have a point (I'm thinking of reading it but it's 656 pages long!!)), so now everything is being kept hush hush. It's already a best seller.

Btw, this is supposed to be twice as long as the other novel so that's about 1,400 pages and printed in two volumes. The English version shall take a few years but I'm sure Random House already snapped up the rights and has a translator in mind, the Russians already do (or it's rumored that they do).

The speculation on the novel is varied and detailed. This is interesting it's about the translation mistake of the Russian translator about 'spider monkey' which is real but the translator thought that it was a made-up animal. Ain't Japanese puns and allusions and all that hidden meanings in the words so much fun?

Ooh this article is interesting on the author. Damnit...now I'm really intrigued. I skipped the parts mentioning Kafka.

Considering how all the hype surrounding the book is the same as the Harry Potter series...I gotta say that my fangirl and otaku interests are peaked. It's just...damn that is long.

I'm in College Station. My brother's surgery went well and tomorrow he and his wife will be home. I've been having migraine problems and sleeping a lot when I can sleep.

Book Buyers Unite!
Yes, the economic situation is scary. Yes, people are watching their pennies. But books are still one of the best bargains around.

Buy a book for yourself or as a gift, then post the title and author's name in the comment trail. Every time a book is purchased, we'll add its cover to the slideshow. Fiction or non-fiction; cookbooks or comic books; children's, e-books - they're all good! When a book is mentioned more than once, we'll list it as a favorite below.

Go ahead! Tell the world: How many books did YOU buy today*?

I'm going to put in how many books (manga) I bought recently. I think it's a good idea.

I'm going to crash now.
