more news that you should know or want to know

In absolute horrible news it has been confirmed that arsons are to blame for the over 160+ and counting deaths in Australia's wildfires. They are calling it mass murder and frankly, I'm having to agree. Fire is an absolutely horrible way to go and these people suffered.

15 U.S. Companies that may not exist next year. A few are salvageable in that they may go back to private or get take overs...but the majority are facing bankruptcy/liquidation.

Want a job where you don't have to worry about layoffs? Try these jobs, no lay-offs ever. Nu-Star is over in my area. heh.

Did you know that working women are about to out number working me in the work place? Layoffs are more worse for men. I'm not sure what to think of this. Is this a step forward for equality in the workplace or is it only because women earn less than men for the same job overall? And we are just cheaper to keep around?

Your 'gut' feeling may be unconscious memory. Cool. Brains are such neat little critters. Totally trumps computers. I don't care what Terminator thinks, machines will not replace us.

MUMMIES!!! I love mummies. Did I ever tell you guys that I wanted to be an Egyptologist?

Dan Savage should be happy. It seems that ITMFA is about to commence..ignore the fact that he has already left the office. Leahy: Investigate Bush Now
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy insisted on Monday in firm and passionate terms that a comprehensive investigation be launched into the conduct of the Bush administration, saying anything less would prevent the country from moving forward.

I think I like this guy.

Is this a snub? The President of the Free World invites a Republican Senator a ride back to his home state onboard the fucking AIR FORCE ONE!! And he turns it down?! WTF?

Aids Gel looks to work but there are problems with the cocktail.

A Letter to Rush from an ex-GOP Leader. This should be fun.

Yes, this is really what Minnesotans really want to hear: another GOP politician saying that "god" wants him to serve... Can we just declare Franken the winner already?

There's a website up that is trying to get a porn star (female) to run up against - no not in that way...pervs - Vitter in the upcoming Senate election. I want her in. Finally a politician who is morally on the same standards as us constituents. We all like porn, even Vitter who had a prostitute and a mistress does. No more hypocritical hatred of the evil smex.

As a Texan I must apologize for this. I am deeply ashamed that christian zealot bigots lawyers funded to prevent the Palin troopergate probe.

Economists say that the Stimulus is too small to do any good because it will only plug up the leak not fix the dam. Gee...I bet the GOP is loving that and they will absolutely refuse to give any more money. Why can't we just outnumber them already?
But think of it like Pascal's Wager. Blaise Pascal famously argued that you might as well believe in God because if you're wrong, all you've done is waste a few Sundays. If you wager there's no God and you're wrong, well, God help you.

In the same way, if the government follows the Galbraithian advice to go big and spends everything it can to turn the economy around and it goes too far, the worst thing you get is some inflation - which can be pulled back with interest rate hikes - and a higher national debt. (The Senate version raises the debt ceiling to $13 trillion.)

But what if they're right? There are more ways to harm children and grandchildren than saddling them with debt, such as, say, leaving them with a drastically lowered standard of living and an unstable world.

Of course, the stimulus number isn't driven by economics, but by politics, despite occasional attempts to assert otherwise.

"I think it will be below 800 [billion dollars]," said Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson, the most vocal Democrat calling for a trimmed down stimulus. "For me it's not symbolism, it's an economic matter. At some point it's just too big."

Hee hee, Ann Coulter is under investigation for Voter FRAUD! This means if convicted she can NEVER vote again!!

Holy shit, I wasn't wrong yesterday when I thought I heard GOP Prez bash Govt Jobs. Steele Confuses Stephanopoulos and Steele Crazy after all this Year. Another thing, this isn't the first time he's said this so this wasn't some sort of tongue twister. This guy actually does not believe that government jobs are jobs but that are just work and that the private sector jobs are more important.
WTF? Tell that to the police men and women who come to your house when you get robbed and protect you ever damn day of their jobs. Tell that to the firemen and women who come and put out the flames in your house. Tell that to the politicians you work with you dumbass. And tell that to my brother and his dead friends who went to Iraq for your fucking war! How the hell is fighting and dying for your country working for the government not WORK?!
